Our Christmas Break with the new house! Pt. 5

An exterior shot of the house... and further evidence that we've been hard at work!

Closing up shop after a hard days work!

Buying new exterior doors to make the house more environmentally friendly...
we're gonna stop heating that 3 season room!

Proud owner of new doors!

AKA the demoltious duo do demo!
Beware when you give Ruth & Michelle a pry bar and a hammer...

Half the wood we removed from the mud room!

No more little awkward closet that didn't even really work!

No more wooded hallway!

No more face to the wall...

Starting to look a lot different!

We had thought this might be a wall, but were delighted to learn it was just a wood structure!

Always strategizing!

Our Christmas Break with the new house! Pt. 3

First of the base cabinets are out!

We unearthed quite a few little treasures including a note that included a quarter... the note said, "I guess your wish didn't come true."

The mudroom post cabinets... you will notice all the screw holes!

Mud room from the opposite angle

The rock wall in the living room was something we actually liked about the house (the rocks had been taken from the previous owners family farm) but when we were removing the trim on the door next to it a piece fell off. This made us decide that it would be better for the wall to come down then risk someone getting hurt!

Strategizing on how to remove the wall while minimizing damage to the plaster wall!
(Michelle likes to call this the meeting of the minds!)

The first brave tap!

Bringing down the wall!
(safety first boys... way to go!)

Sweet progress!

It came down in one big piece! (plus rubble)

All the rubble and dust!

The wall after it was removed... not too bad!

So much mess!

The attic got new insulation!

The wall post project... will need to be filled and remuded... but better than having to replace the wall!

Our Christmas Break with the new house! Pt. 2

More discoveries of what was under the covering...

Yuck!

Pulled out the extra air vent that was used to vent the 3 season room!

Taking out the cabinetry in the mud room... this was a monster to take out. They were quite excessive with the screws... 14 just on the bottom!

First snow in the new house!

The view from our side window... Michelle's parents house is 2 to the right from the house seen in the picture! (they are across the street from our immediate neighbors)

We had 2 weeks off of school for the holiday break... here is the start of the things we accomplished... to be continued in the next post!

Josh removing all lighting fixtures!

We removed the old linoleum flooring that was in the closets... took quite a bit of work!

We removed all light switch and electrical outlet plates

We washed all the walls to start prepping for our high duty sealer to keep out any pet odors!

Kitchen cabinetry all down!

Plastic over the windows and doors to keep heat from going into the 3 season room

What we accomplished before break!

We've been working hard on getting a good base of stuff done before our 2 weeks off of school when we hope to accomplish a lot! Here's what we've been up to:

Kitchen cabinets coming out... discover old paint colors! These people liked the bright colors!

Josh working to take cabinetry down!

2 cabinets down!

First cabinet down! Opens things up so much...

Before any cabinetry comes down *sorry these are in reverse order, can't figure out how to switch them without starting over*

Other side of cabinetry as we got them!

Josh getting hard at work... and using protective gear!

Removing the wall covering that was glued down left a less then sightly wall! :(

Beginning to become clear about why the ceiling was covered!

Changed the lock on the doors so we're the only ones with keys!
